Eastmont Computing Center
(From the ECC Web site):
The Eastmont Computing Center (ECC) is a community resource on technology, committed to providing universal access and employment-focused, cutting-edge training to under-served communities of Oakland. Programs will provide technology access to all segments of the local community including a special emphasis on employment-focused training primarily to youth.
Located in a 5,000 square foot storefront in East Oakland's Eastmont Town Center, ECC can provide technology access to over 30,000 people living within a single mile of the center, over thirty-five percent of which have household incomes below $25,000 per year. The ECC offers students at two local public high schools a variety of services including Internet access for research, word processing access to improve the quality of school work, and technology-focused school-to-career transition services. Adults access resources to assist in resume writing, job search, computer literacy and work place skills.
The ECC models the best practices of Community Technology Centers throughout the country. We work to bring a variety of community technology solutions to Oakland's under-served communties through partnerships with community organizations, city government, private industry and others.
The Eastmont Computing Center is the product of a partnership between the Oakland Citizens' Committee for Urban Renewal (OCCUR), the East Bay Urban Church and Family Network, Youth Media, the FAITHS Initiative and the Urban Technology Center, Inc.
