Sir Francis Drake High School
Communications Academy

Sir Francis Drake High School has several different partnership academy programs. This school has been developing integrated studies programs, connected with real world project-based learning, community service, internships, and integrated use of technology for over 8 years.

The mission of Drake's innovative Communications Academy (ComAcad) is to "build a community of self-directed learners who specialize in communication, collaboration, and creative problem solving, and demonstrate learning through integrated media performance-based exhibitions." From storyboard to final editing, students learn the process of communicating through media. The Academy is taught by a team of teachers during three in-class periods and one out-of-class period.

Students usually enroll over a two-years period (11-12 grades). Projects include American Decades (communicating themes in the decades from the 1920's through the 1960's) and Economics in the Real World.
